Hi buddy!
This week, gue mau bahas soal imposter syndrome.
Let me start with this
That’s exactly where growth happens.
Let’s dive in!
Step 1: Reframe Imposter Syndrome as a Positive Sign
The very first step untuk overcome imposter syndrome adalah change how you interpret it.
Kenapa ini penting? Karena interpretation lo determine action lo. Kalau lo think imposter syndrome = enggak capable, lo enggak akan move. Tapi kalau lo think imposter syndrome = proof you’re growing, lo akan approach it totally different.
Tapi truth is? Imposter syndrome dan growth adalah linked. You can’t grow without some level of discomfort.
Reframe ini:
Instead of: “Aduh gue merasa imposter syndrome, berarti gue enggak cocok”
Think: “Gue merasa imposter syndrome, berarti gue pushing diri gue ke place yang unfamiliar, that’s exactly where growth happens.”
Contohnya: 4 tahun lalu waktu gue baru full-time ngisi training, gue deliver training pertama kali di depan orang-orang senior jauh lebih senior dari gue. Umur mereka 40-50 tahun, gue masih 30-an, mereka udah kerja jauh lebih lama. Gue beneran merasa kayak “siapa gue sih? Mereka bakal judge gue.”
Then gue realize: mereka invite gue buat deliver. Perusahaan mereka percaya gue bisa do this. So instead of overthink perception, gue fokus: “Okay, apa yang bisa gue deliver sebaik-baiknya?”
Pas gue liat hasil feedbacknya
Gue dapat rating 9,9 dari 10.
Gue ngomong gini bukan buat pamer.
Gue mau make a point bahwa kadang kita yang terlalu keras dalam menilai diri kita sendiri. So give ourselves some credit for doing the best.
Takeaway: Imposter syndrome? It’s a feature, not a bug. It means you’re in the right zone uncomfortable enough to grow, but not so uncomfortable you break. Be proud of that. Celebrate it. Because it means you’re exactly where you need to be.
Step 2: Focus on Value You Can Give, Not Perception You Create
The next step untuk overcome imposter syndrome adalah completely shift your focus.
Kenapa? Karena imposter syndrome thrives ketika lo obsessed dengan “what will people think.” But the moment lo shift focus ke “what value can I create,” imposter syndrome loses power.
The myth di sini adalah orang pikir kayak “kalau orang judge gue, gue bakal hancur.” Tapi sebenernya? Lo enggak bisa control perception orang. Yang lo bisa control? Value yang lo deliver.
Caranya: When you get invited to speak, teach, lead something, ask yourself: “Apa yang bisa gue give ke orang-orang ini?” Not “what will they think of me?”
Contohnya: Gue diundang jadi pembicara.
Old me: “wah mereka seniornya banyak, mereka bakal judge gue, gue takut salah ngomong.”
New me: “oke, apa yang bisa gue share yang actually valuable buat mereka?”
Different focus = different energy = different result.
Takeaway: Stop trying to control perception. Start trying to maximize value. Imposter syndrome emerge from self-focus. It disappears when you’re focused on contribution.
Step 3: Prepare Intensely, Then Execute & Learn
Finally, the last step untuk overcome imposter syndrome adalah preparation + action.
Kenapa?
Orang pikir kalau beneran siap, imposter syndrome bakal hilang dulu baru execute.
Caranya:
Prepare sebaik-baiknya. Bikin material, practice, rehearsal. Do the work. When you’re prepared, confidence automatically rise bukan karena “gue percaya diri,” tapi karena “gue udah ready.”
Execute. When it’s time, you just do it. Jangan overthink. You prepared, now deliver your best.
Learn from feedback. Kalau hasilnya enggak sempurna? Great. Itu data. That’s how you improve next time.
Contohnya: Gue prepare modulnya, latihan berkali-kali, then gue deliver. Waktu gue deliver, gue fokus ke audience gimana caranya gue deliver yang terbaik, gimana caranya gue ngasih value.
Takeaway: Preparation breeds confidence. Execution breeds evidence. Together, they kill imposter syndrome faster than any mindset hack. So prepare, execute, learn, repeat. That’s the formula.
Let’s recap
Jadi, kita udah discuss bahwa:
The problem: Lo feel imposter syndrome, interpret it as “gue enggak capable,” dan instead of moving forward, lo stuck di overthinking cycle.
The framework: Reframe (it’s a positive), refocus (to value, not perception), then prepare + execute (to get evidence).
The steps:
Recognize imposter syndrome = you’re pushing yourself into growth zone
Shift focus dari “what will they think” ke “what value can I give”
Prepare intensely, then execute, then learn from results repeat
Now ask yourself this:
Apa opportunity atau challenge yang lo feel imposter syndrome paling strong? (Bisa presentation, leadership role, skill yang mau lo develop, anything.)
Untuk opportunity/challenge itu:
Reframe: Why is this actually a GOOD place for me to grow?
Refocus: What value can I create or contribute in this situation? (Not: what will they think)
Prepare: What’s ONE thing I can do this week to prepare better?
Write it down. Take action. Report back.
Because imposter syndrome doesn’t disappear from thinking. It disappears from evidence. And evidence comes from action.
Jangan tunggu sampai lo “feel ready.” You’ll never feel fully ready. Just prepare, execute, learn.
Reply me with your answer :)
Let’s go.
